History
Heraeus can look back on over a hundred years of experience in the development of decoration products for glass and ceramics.
In 1896 Heraeus set the foundation for bright gold production with the acquisition of the August Herbst bright gold factory. Bright gold was followed by bright silver and bright platinum. The “ceramic department” in the Heraeus Platinum Smelting Works continued the development of precious metal preparations. This soon came to fruition, for example as new enamel colours, high firing gold for the production of gold decorations at temperatures around 1200°C fast firing, and a special lacquer for the production of decals. Heraeus continually developed its know-how and rounded off its product range with the introduction of ceramic colours.
Today, Heraeus Ceramic Colours belong to the world wide leading manufacturers of decoration products for ceramics and glass.
Classical and innovative products
As a pioneer in the development of ceramic colours, Heraeus not only offers classical decoration products but also special, innovative products and decoration systems. Decorations have to stand up to permanent every day use. It is also necessary for the ceramic and glass decoration products to meet ever increasing regulatory demands with respect to their heavy metal content and release, their compatibility with foodstuffs, etc. Heraeus offers made-to-measure solutions created in intensive development work. So that lead-free decoration colours and special UV-cureable products, amongst others, open up new alternative applications. They make environment friendly and technically demanding ceramic and glass decoration economically possible.
